The closer we are to 2023, the more the terms “new year resolutions” and “new year goals” get tossed around. But have you heard of “anti-goals?”
“Anti-goals” is a concept developed by Andrew Wilkinson and Chris Sparling, where instead of listing out the goals that would make up your perfect day, you write down the things that would lead to your worst day possible. From there, you work backward and create a new list of how to avoid everything from your “worst day ever” list.
So how can this approach help you? It’s a great way for agents to plan for 2023! The power of anti-goals works for everyone, even for busy agents on the go who aren’t always in the office. Think about the last time you were in a rut. What did you focus on more — what you liked about what you were doing, or what you hated about it? Maybe you had a busy week and felt like you were always behind on emails, or you struggled to see eye to eye with a challenging client. Anti-goals work with that mentality, not against it.
Anti-goals work in all facets of life, too. Maybe you’re not accomplishing the goals you set for yourself at work, or you tried kickstarting a new healthy lifestyle. Instead of racking your brain for new things to try to accomplish your current goals, consider what it is about your current routine that isn’t working for you, and find ways to avoid doing the things that are holding you back from reaching your goals.
So for 2023, let’s focus on the negative… to get to the positive. You’ll be all the happier for it.
